Behind the Wheel: Audi’s Redesigned Q3 Raises the Bar in San Juan

Settle into the driver’s seat of the redesigned Audi Q3 and the first thing you notice isn’t the road ahead, it’s the light.

Twin displays curve toward you across the dash — an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster and, beside it, a 12.8-inch MMI touchscreen angled for the driver’s eye — and the cabin feels less like a compact SUV and more like the cockpit of something a class above.

Press the ignition, and a turbocharged 2.0-liter TFSI four-cylinder wakes up with 255 horsepower and 273 lb.-ft. of torque on tap. Pull into “La Kennedy” in San Juan, and the seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission snaps through gears while the quattro all-wheel drive quietly sends power to all four corners — the kind of composed, confident launch that gets the redesigned Q3 to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds, according to Audi’s own figures.

This is the vehicle Puerto Rico’s Audi enthusiasts have been waiting for.

Audi San Juan gave the new Q3 a launch to match the ambition: an invitation-only unveiling in the atrium of The Mall of San Juan on May 27, with clients, media and business partners on hand to see, in person, what the brand calls its most important product update of the year.

It’s easy to see why the company chose to make a moment of it. The redesigned Q3 isn’t a light refresh — it’s a meaningfully bigger, sharper, more technologically ambitious vehicle, arriving in the segment Puerto Rico buys more than any other.

A Design that Grew Up

The new Q3 is longer and wider than its predecessor, and it wears the extra size well. A more prominent single-frame grille anchors a sharper front fascia, flanked — for the first time on this model — by Audi’s Digital Matrix LED headlights with Signature lighting, letting owners choose among distinct daytime running-light signatures that make the car as recognizable at night as it is during the day. The overall effect is a compact SUV that reads as a genuine evolution of Audi’s current design language, not a scaled-down version of something else in the lineup.

Inside is where the redesign does its best work. Audi’s new “Digital Stage” cockpit concept pairs that 11.9-inch driver display with the 12.8-inch touchscreen, backed by new steering-wheel-mounted controls, added storage and a cabin Audi describes as cleaner and more premium than the outgoing model. Cargo space grows too — about 25 cubic feet behind the rear seats, expanding to nearly 50 cubic feet with them folded down, according to Audi USA specifications — enough to make the Q3 as practical for a family grocery run as it is for a weekend trip across the island.

The Numbers Behind the Confidence

Audi San Juan’s optimism is backed by real demand. Compact SUVs are Puerto Rico’s single best-selling vehicle category, ahead of subcompact SUVs and pickups, according to May 2026 data from the United Automobile Importers Group (GUIA by its Spanish acronym) — exactly the segment the redesigned Q3 competes in.

Within the premium tier, buyers have kept spending on SUVs even as they’ve pulled back elsewhere, and electrified powertrains — hybrids in particular — grew 16% islandwide through the first five months of the year, a signal that Puerto Rico’s SUV shoppers are increasingly drawn to newer, more efficient technology of exactly the kind Audi is building into its lineup.

“The new Audi Q3 represents an important evolution for the brand. It’s a completely redesigned vehicle that reflects where Audi is headed: a more sophisticated, technological experience centered on design,” said Víctor M. Gómez III, president & CEO of Gómez Hermanos Paulson, Audi’s exclusive representative in Puerto Rico.

Gómez used the launch to also announce new Audi San Juan facilities on Kennedy Avenue, part of Audi’s global initiative to reimagine the traditional dealership as a more modern, digital and immersive space — a sign of long-term investment in the local market rather than a one-off product launch.

What is clear is the positioning: a more powerful engine, a dramatically upgraded cockpit and sharper styling, wrapped around the one vehicle category Puerto Rico has never stopped buying.
