Porsche Center Puerto Rico put the all-electric Macan 4S through its paces on
Naranjito’s steep hills and the results make a case for Porsche’s first EV SUV.
On the eve of the redesigning and upgrading of its dealership facilities on the island, Porsche Center Puerto Rico hosted this month its Summer Drive Experience event, where members of the media, and web content creators had a chance to test drive the importer’s Macan Electric model.
True to its legacy the Macan exudes style, luxury and speed. While some may consider Porsche’s EVs may lack the agility and excitement historically associated with its internal combustion models, the fact is the Macan 4S –which was the model we test drived– delivers an unmatched dynamic profile for an EV.
Under the slogan “Drive, Discover, Connect”, Porsche’s Summer Drive Experience event was held on the sloping and winding hills leading to Calichi Gastro Bar, a restaurant nestled in the mountains of Naranjito with magnificent views of the luscious forest that surrounds it. Not necessarily the ideal setting for testing a car considered to be built for speed, the location indeed provided for the unusual opportunity to test the Macan’s manuverability up and downhill.
At low speeds, the car’s immediate throttle calibration and all-wheel-drive (AWD) provide incredible agility. On Naranjito’s steep inclines, the engine’s 604 lb-ft of torque conquered the climbs with sports-car-like ease. Unlike some performance EVs that suffer from jerky or overly sensitive throttle inputs, the electric Macan features incredibly smooth, modulated power delivery.
The Macan excels when pointing uphill. When hitting the throttle on a steep grade, the Macan 4S AWD system instantly apportions torque, allowing the vehicle to rocket up inclines with seamless, uninterrupted power.
First introduced in 2024, the Macan Electric is Porsche’s first all-electric SUV and its second EV model line. In all of its variants the Macan is equipped with a 100-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, built on the brand’s new 800-volt platform specifically engineered purely for battery-electric propulsion. This innovation allows for a lighter vehicle with what some accolades say are “extreme charging times”.
Because extra electric motors and high-performance equipment consume more energy, the total driving range varies across the different trim levels. Porsche USA official EPA range estimates span from 290 to 332 miles. Nevertheless, real-world highway tests consistently show the Macan outperforming its conservative EPA estimates, easily exceeding 300+ miles in real-world mixed driving conditions.
When charging, the system allows a peak charging input of 270 kW that would recharge the battery from 10% to 80% in 21 minutes. The owners of a Macan will be saying goodbye to those long periods waiting to for the battery to fill-up.
For those interested in acquiring an entry level 2026 Macan electric the MSRP is a little over $80,000, and $90,000 for the Macan 4S. It must be noted that these figures represent the base MSRP before adding destination/delivery fees, and the cost of optional equipment. In Puerto Rico electric vehicles are exempt of state taxes.
